What Is a Random Team Generator?

A random team generator is a free tool that shuffles the name list you enter by draw and splits it into balanced teams and groups. It is used for soccer matches, classroom group work, workshops and office contests. Random group generating, group picking by draw and team selection by draw are all solved on the same screen.

How Does the Random Team Generator Work?

Write the names one per line or paste them from the clipboard. Then set the number of teams or the number of people per team. When you press Create Teams, the list is shuffled from scratch and the teams appear on the screen. If the result is not liked, the Shuffle Again button produces a new split. Copy Teams puts the whole list on the clipboard and the Share button opens the share menu of the device. Duplicate names are shown as a warning under the input.

Building Squads for Soccer and Football

Writing the names of everyone who came and splitting them into two teams is the fastest way to build a soccer squad. Fourteen players make two squads of seven, sixteen players make two squads of eight; setting the number of people per team to seven, eight or eleven is enough. If you want to keep the goalkeeper separate, leave that name out of the list and distribute the remaining players into teams. Beyond football team generating, volleyball, basketball and tournament groups are split the same way.

Creating Groups in the Classroom, the Office and at Events

Splitting a student list into four groups, building groups of three for in team brainstorming or spreading guests across tables is done in one step. The split runs in the browser, so no registration and no file upload is needed. If you want the decision to turn on a wheel, the Simpliers Spin the Wheel tool, and for picking a single name the List Giveaway, Flip a Coin and Roll Dice tools, are free as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions

How are teams set up for a soccer match?

Write the name of everyone coming to the match one per line and press Create Teams. The names are shuffled and an equal number of players lands in each of the two teams. If the number of players is odd, the difference is one person.

Can I set up a squad of seven or eight players?

Switch to people per team with the Change link and write seven or eight. Fourteen players make two full squads, sixteen players make two squads of eight. The remaining players gather in the last team.

Are goalkeepers and positions taken into account?

The split is made purely from the name list and without bias, so positions are not considered. If you want to set the goalkeepers separately, leave them out of the list and split the remaining players into teams.
